Pokémon Halloween Theme Team

In spirit of the spooky month of October, I’ve compiled my Pokémon picks for a mono-ghost themed team. Not all Pokémon are cute and cuddly. Many ghost-type Pokémon have sinister backstories. For my Halloween themed team, I have chosen my favorite ghost Pokémon to celebrate the spooky season with.

6. Froslass

478Froslass

Froslass is an Ice/Ghost Pokémon that is a female only species. Legends say that Froslass is “the soul of a woman lost on a snowy mountain possessed an icicle, becoming this Pokémon.” It also is said that the food that Froslass loves the most is the souls of men.  Don’t let Froslass’s sweet appearance fool you, she has chilling Pokédex entries. “Pokémon Sun” states that, “when it finds humans or Pokémon it likes, it freezes them and takes them to its chilly den, where they become decorations.”

5. Rotom

Rotom_All

Rotom is a unique Pokémon. It is an Electric/Ghost dual-type that is known as the “Plasma Pokémon.” Rotom can possess different electrical items. The Pokémon has five different forms it can turn into: the microwave Heat Rotom, the washing machine Wash Rotom, the refrigerator Frost Rotom, Fan Rotom, and lawnmower Rotom. Depending on the form it takes it can change its Pokémon type. In “Pokémon Sun and Moon” Rotom assists the player by possessing a special Pokédex.

4. Marshadow

802Marshadow

Marshadow is the newest Pokémon released in the franchise. Marshadow is only available through an event currently taking place at local Gamestops from Oct. 9 to Oct. 23. Marshadow is a powerful Pokémon and is the only known Pokémon to posses the Fighting/Ghost typing. Marshadow will have a major role in the upcoming Pokémon movie, Pokémon the Movie: I Choose You!” which releases in the United States on Nov. 5.

3. Decidueye

724DecidueyeDecidueye is a dual-type Grass/Ghost Pokémon and is known as the “Arrow Quill Pokémon.” It is the final evolution of the adorable Alolan starter Pokémon Rowlet. Decidueye resembles an archer and attacks with its own quill feathers. Although Decidueye is a ghost-type Pokémon, it doesn’t have a creepy description or backstory. Decidueye’s ghost-typing may come from it being based off a aumakua which is a Hawaiian ancestral spirit.

2. Gengar

094Gengar

Gengar is the “Shadow Pokémon.” It is an extremely eerie Pokémon with one of the most frightening Pokédex entries. “Pokémon Sun” states, “should you feel yourself attacked by a sudden chill, it is evidence of an approaching Gengar. There is no escaping it. Give up.” Gengar is a Ghost/Poison Pokémon. Gengar is stealthy and mischievous. When Gengar is equipped with Gengarite it can Mega Evolve into Mega Gengar.

1. Mimikyu

778MimikyuMimikyu is one of my favorite Pokémon. Mimikyu is a sad Pokémon that hides its appearance with a Pikachu disguise in hopes of making friends with people. No one knows what the true form of the Pokémon looks like and it’s rumored that if you see what is under the disguise you will die from terror. When Mimikyu is attacked in battle its disguise is broken. The Pokédex entry for when it is busted will pull at the heartstrings. It states, “After going to all the effort of disguising itself, its neck was broken. Whatever is inside is probably unharmed, but it’s still feeling sad.”
